Penobscot Bay Stewards
For seven weeks every year, 20 curious and concerned folks study the history, nature, health, and future of the watershed. They travel the region: Blue Hill, Hurricane Island, Rockland. They learn about the first peoples, visit salmon hatcheries, discuss PFAS and other threats. It is the region's premier program focused on the ecology of the watershed.
Outcomes? The 20 go on to join hundreds of other Penobscot Bay Stewards, alumni who regularly volunteer time and expertise to protect the watershed. They monitor water quality. They maintain Little River Trail. They collaborate with other environmental groups. They help kids learn about fish.
The stewards are guided by experts: farmers, fishermen, naturalists, and volunteers working throughout the region. Meet our teachers.
The program is free. It’s supported by donors and alumni. Learn more about donating.
Interested? You can apply here when applications open. The application is free, just like the program.
