About Us
The Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition—a group of neighbors, teachers, naturalists, and experts—provides leadership for the protection of 108 square miles of land and water in Waldo County, Maine. Our goal is to educate and engage all those who share the waters and land of the Belfast Bay Watershed.
This includes the watersheds of the Little River, Passagassawakeag River, Wescot Stream, and the Goose River in Belfast and parts of the towns of Brooks, Frankfort, Knox, Morrill, Northport, Searsport, Swanville and Waldo.

We’re an all-volunteer organization. There are about hundreds of us, many of us alumni of the multi-faceted Penobscot Bay Stewards program. We’re from all backgrounds, and we each contribute in different ways. Learn more about who we are. We welcome new members, new donors, new volunteers.
Our mission is simple. Our vision has optimism in it. Take a look >
Our history is active and storied. The Watershed Coalition dates back to the 1990s, with work by the Passy Coalition. Since then: hundreds of Pen Bay alums, scores of hikes and paddles, presentations, collaborations, and efforts to protect the land and water we depend on. Check out our history >
We’re always working. Among our recent and current projects: Ban the (plastic) Bag, which changed Maine state law; the Hills to Sea Trail, the Little River Trail. Learn more about BBWC’s community actions >

And we’re always working with other forward-thinking groups. The Belfast Free Library, the Green Lake Fish Hatchery, the Maine Coastal Regional Reentry Center: we keep in touch and working alongside scores of groups in the region. Curious about how you can connect? Contact us.
