Learn and Play
For kids:
We’re in the schools, in gardens, on Hurricane Island, and along the Wescott Stream, raising fish, growing mushrooms, and teaching about the ecology of the watershed. Learn about:
Fish Friends, where kids get to raise salmon from eggs to fingerlings.
Natural Literacy, which includes biodiversity, maybe a little chemistry, some lessons in pollination and seed dispersal, a few songs, some forest tea. Can’t beat forest tea.

Hurricane Island Camp-ships, exploring, rock climbing, investigations, and other adventures on a storied island.
Merlin Club. At this nature study club for grades 6,7, and 8, the kids choose what they want to learn.
We’re learning all the time—exploring, reading, listening, watching (for a sampling, check our resources.) We also teach. And we love to play. Here’s some of what we do.
For grownups:
Evening Programs: In winter, we offer free programs, usually at the Belfast Free Library. They cover everything from sfaf asdfaf fasf. Learn more about what they’re about here. You can find upcoming programs on our calendar. Need content
Penobscot Bay Stewards: The region’s premier adult ed program on the ecology, history, and state of the watershed runs from May through June. It’s a journey. It’s extraordinary.
For Everyone:
A huge array of outings for you and your family. Sometimes we hike. Sometimes we focus on trees or geology. Last year, on one of our bird walks, we glimpsed an eagle family breakfasting. These are free events, led by experts, and always full of information and camaraderie. Check the event schedule. Or, if want to go it alone? we have trail guides and maps.
