The Pen Bay Stewards program takes place during the month of May, and offers a unique opportunity to study the Penobscot Bay region.
It is provided through the collaboration of the Maine Coastal
Program of the State Planning Office with the Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition.
Although the course is free of charge, participants are expected to volunteer 30 hours to local conservation efforts of their choice during the coming year. There are many exciting volunteer opportunities available.
Participants learn about Wabanaki history, culture, current events; vernal pools; Gulf of Maine fisheries; Atlantic puffin restoration; island ecology and economics; terrestrial and marine biodiversity; chemistry and health of the Penobscot River and Bay; Maine coastal geology; the overall health of the Gulf of Maine.
